INSIDE PEACE, the MOVIE,
SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 29 2018, 7 pm

Free entrance. Click on the picture above to view the film's trailer.

With great pleasure, Peace Is Possible Ottawa/Gatineau invites you to a free viewing of the multiple award-winning documentary film ‘Inside Peace’, which is being presented at the University of Ottawa by Cinema Academica, as part of the Ottawa Peace Festival 2018

The showing will be followed by a discussion on issues raised by the film. Our guest, hip-hop artist Raphaël Desil (aka Moun Fou), will join us to share his experience of rehabilitation.

The documentary illuminates the transition that takes place within prisoners’ lives after attending a 10-week Peace Education course given at the Dominguez State Jail, San Antonio, Texas. The course seems to have a profound effect on individuals by encouraging them to de-escalate and take responsibility for their own personal situations & lives.

The prisoners in the film share their insights into the social and emotional forces that sent them onto the wrong path and offer the uplifting message that everybody has the possibility to change their lives around, no matter how difficult their situation. ‘Inside Peace’ follows several of them after their release and shows the challenges ex-inmates face in their efforts to reintegrate into society.

This non-religious/non-sectarian Peace Education Program is being successfully implemented on a global scale at correctional facilities and other suitable venues in the Americas, Europe, Asia and Australia. Peace Education courses have now been held in 81 countries and 37 different languages. At the end of 2017, over 7000 people in correctional facilities were participating in them.

Please take a moment to review the attached poster.

Ottawa – Gatineau : St. Patrick’s Day Fundraiser for the Kifubon Project

Harp Benefit-Concert

Dear Friends,

This is an invitation to attend a benefit concert on the evening of Saturday, March 17 (St. Patrick’s Day) to support the Kifubon book-giving project.

Over the last few months, a group of Canadian volunteers have been distributing free copies of Prem Rawat’s ‘Splitting the Arrow’ to Correctional Institutes and other worthy recipients across Canada.

Members of the Peace is Possible Ottawa/Gatineau team received fifty of these books from the Japanese publisher Bunya, most of which went to the federal penitentiary in Cowansville, Quebec, where they were gratefully received by prisoners.

Our St. Patrick’s Day benefit, which is being held to raise funds so we can continue helping this very worthwhile effort, will feature Irish music, storytelling and a chance to catch up with each other over refreshments.

We hope that you will support this event. And bring your friends!

The film “Inside Peace” will be presented at 7 pm on Friday August 18th at the Dovercourt Recreation Centre, 411 Dovercourt Ave, Ottawa, ON K2A 0S9

Shot over a period of four years, the film chronicles the progress of inmates at a Texas prison as they are inspired to explore the possibility of inner change following a Peace Class. Unlike most films and TV series dealing with the penal system, “Inside Peace” presents the inmates in their own voices, and offers a rare insight into the challenges they face once set free again.

In the words of the film’s director, Cynthia Fitzpatrick: “I wanted to show the stories of these individuals I came to know, whose lives touched mine as I watched them navigate the arduous journey from inside prison walls to their return home, a journey not only of outward release but of inner transformation.”
